Synlait is an NZ-based dairy manufacturer combining expert farming with advanced technology to produce products that feed millions globally. Its 900 staff work across offices, labs, farms, and everywhere in between. Valuable conversations packed with decisions, ideas, risks, and knowledge happen every day at these sites. Contented gives Synlait a secure, centralised way to capture, share, and action them. 

Staff can record meetings, strategy sessions, interviews, even walking site inspections, then share documents and decisions immediately. It's a single source of truth, an aligned plan, and far less time spent at a desk.

As a dual-listed company, Synlait operates under strict obligations around market-sensitive information. Contented's enterprise-grade security was key for adoption. The platform is SOC 2 Type 1 compliant, doesn't train on company data, and never stores recordings in its apps.

Contented arrived at Synlait via Director of People and Culture Stephanie Manning, who was introduced to the platform in a previous role. "Bringing it with me was obvious," says Steph.

"I knew it would have the potential to transform how teams at Synlait operate."

Usage is spread organically across teams including lab services, safety, HR, and communications. The milk supply team interviewed dozens of farmers as part of a programme review, using Contented to identify themes that fed into board reporting. Steph uses it for performance conversations and notes throughout the day. Jo takes it on her walking meetings.

For staff with a long commute to the company's Dunsandel headquarters, that drive time is now productive. Contented captures goals for the day and strategic thinking before they arrive on site. 

"Our users are collaborating and sharing information much more easily," Jo says.

"Cross-functional teams meet, someone will record with Contented, and then it's one-touch sharing — which means everybody's aligned."

Contented's purpose lines up with Synlait's purpose of "doing milk differently for a healthier world". The platform facilitates more conversations, not fewer, which as Jo says is a fundamentally different proposition to other AI platforms that help people avoid having them. 

"The core advantage of Contented versus any other AI tool is that it gets you talking to people. Because if you don't talk to people and you don't ask good questions, you don't find the gold and you risk working in silos."
