Create an assets and liabilities table from a meeting.

Every asset and liability raised in your meeting captured in a table, with the net position calculated underneath.

What is an assets and liabilities template?

An assets and liabilities table is the foundation of any financial planning conversation: a structured record of what someone owns, what they owe, and what they're worth.

The figures come out during the meeting. Property values, mortgage balances, KiwiSaver, term deposits, share portfolios, business equity. Capturing them accurately while listening, asking the next question, and steering the conversation is difficult, and the figures blur quickly once the meeting ends.

Contented produces the table directly from the recording, with every figure, account, property, and lender captured as stated. Anything inferred is flagged in yellow for verification before the document is relied on.

How to use an assets and liabilities template

Record your meeting in the Contented app, pick the assets and liabilities template, and download a structured net position table within minutes.

1. Record your conversation

Capture the meeting in the Contented app. Suitable for client discovery, mortgage applications, estate planning, relationship property discussions, and any conversation where balances need to be captured.

2. Select the assets and liabilities template

Choose assets and liabilities from your Contented workspace. Contented extracts every figure from the conversation (property values, mortgages, retirement savings, term deposits, share portfolios, business equity, vehicles, credit cards) and produces a table with the net position calculated.

3. Review and export

Download as CSV, PDF or Word. Drop into the client file, attach to the loan application, or share as needed.

Who uses an assets and liabilities template?

Anyone who needs to capture what a person owns and what they owe in a single document.

A few examples:

  • Financial advisers and wealth managers in client discovery meetings.
  • Mortgage brokers preparing serviceability cases.
  • Accountants working on tax planning, business structuring, or insolvency.
  • Estate planners and probate lawyers preparing client documentation.
  • Family lawyers and mediators handling relationship property splits.
  • Bankers in business lending and commercial finance conversations.
  • Individuals preparing their own paperwork: first-home buyers, couples reviewing their position, anyone working through a major decision.

What's in an assets and liabilities template?

  • A structured two-column table with assets and liabilities side by side, and the net position calculated at the foot.
  • Assets categorised by type: real property, cash and term deposits, investments and KiwiSaver, business interests, and personal assets, each with the value as stated in the conversation.
  • Property assets paired with their corresponding mortgages, so each holding shows both gross value and the debt secured against it.
  • Liabilities grouped by category: secured lending, personal debt, business borrowings, tax obligations, and any other balances outstanding.
  • Source attribution against each line, with direct quotes where the figure was qualified ("around $1.2 million", "roughly $290k left on it") so the level of certainty is visible.
  • Where a figure was implied rather than stated outright, Contented marks it so it can be verified. Essential for accuracy and compliance.
  • Export-ready as CSV, PDF or Word, formatted for use in financial plans, lending applications, client files, or formal documentation.
